What is Strategic Visioning?

Early in her career, Liz learned from some of the best consulting firms and developed her own approach to making strategic planning straightforward, actionable, and team-focused. Strategic visioning is aspirational, unlike many traditional business plans, which are often rooted in short-term goals. 

A strategic vision should be broad enough to inspire and flexible enough to adapt. While a business plan might focus on the next 12 to 18 months, a vision looks ahead three to five years (or longer). It captures where you want to be, even if you’re unsure how to get there. As Liz says, “You should be able to look at your vision and not know exactly how you’ll achieve it —that’s when you know your vision is big enough.”

An effective strategic vision integrates purpose, alignment, and action. For many clients, this means combining Liz’s Seven Stages of Growth framework with tools like thematic goals and a playbook format. These make sure that teams understand the vision and are aligned with clear key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress.

For example, one client used this framework to completely transform their business. They achieved alignment and momentum by focusing on one overarching goal and aligning their team with actionable KPIs. As Liz puts it, “When companies use this format, their teams come together quickly, focus on priorities, and make significant progress.”

Dream Building involves strategic visioning on a deeply personal level. It’s about aligning leaders’ personal aspirations with their personal goals. While businesses have historically been hesitant to explore the spiritual or emotional side of leadership, this approach has become increasingly relevant post-pandemic, especially for women leaders who tend to seek a more holistic perspective. 

Liz’s Dream Building program focuses on four aspects of life: health, relationships, vocation, and time and money freedom. Over 12 weeks, clients blueprint their ideal life, bridge the gap between their current reality and future goals, and build the life they envision. It may sound woo-woo, but leaders can fully embrace their dreams and bring them to life in actionable ways by recognizing and breaking through limiting paradigms.
